Synopsis

An American soldier in Afghanistan, Colter Stevens (Jake Gyllenhaal), find himself in the body of another man on a Chicago commuter train. He is seated with that person's friend, Christina Warren (Michelle Monaghan) who is disturbed by his strange behavior. A terrorist bomb goes off and all the passengers are killed in the fiery explosion.

But Colter then awakes inside an unfamiliar pod, where a woman, Colleen Goodwin (Vera Farmiga) on a video screen, explains that he is being used in a new program that allows him to go back in time and inhabit another person, for only eight minutes. She works for scientist, Dr. Rutledge (Jeffrey Wright), and they want Colter to continue to relive that experience until he can identify the bomber. They further explain that the explosion has already occurred and it is too late to prevent it, but that the bomber has plans for even greater destruction in downtown Chicago.

Trailer

Source Code is largely a science fiction thriller, but the emotional and romantic elements of the story, and the Groundhog Day-like theme, qualify it as a marginal film blanc.
